To feed the hungry, clothe the naked and show unconditional love and acceptance to the most needy people.
Matthew 25 v 40: The King will reply, 'I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these members of my family, you did it for me!'
Soup from Heaven was founded in 2010 by Veyanke Hodson, after receiving a vision fromGod to start a Soup Kitchen in Cape Town, South Africa. Veyanke returned back to the UK after a visit to Cape Town and shared this vision with the Leadership of YFC. They supported her in this and Soup from Heaven came into being. This charity works amongst the most desperate and needy people in Cape Town and has grown immensely over the last few years. The main aim of SFH is to introduce people to the unconditional love of God and to help them grow in this love. Many lives have been touched and changed over the last few years. Soup from a Heaven is a family run charity and all the money raised goes directly to the people who need it the most, no middle men. All glory to God!
During August 2019 a small group of people visited Cape Town on mission. During that time we were caught up with all our regular projects and strengthened existing relationships with our people on the ground. Some of the highlights were visiting the soup kitchen, visiting our children's home where we have seen the wonderful growth and improvement in all the children. We reached out to many people who live on the streets and formed closer relationships with them. We spent a lot of time coming alongside leaders and empowering them to make positive changes within the communities that they live in.
We provided one family with a new home. We sent a pastor to the Congo where he did outreach, a food programme within the community and baptised local people. We also hosted a workshop in Cape Town for about 100 children where we teaching them to live in the life transforming love of God. This was just a few of the highlights of many more powerful encounters and connections which are growing and building on all our previous visits.
In August 2017 we were involved with all the projects of SFH. We visited the Soup Kitchen on several occasions, serving food and showing love to those who came. We also attended the Church now held at the Soup Kitchen and on another occasion we visited Mbeleleu's church in the township. We did a night outreach to the people who sleep rough on the streets. The team also visited Ray of Sunshine House where we played with the children, did crafts with them and sang some songs. This year, for the first time, we visited another Children's home called Bright Stars where we played with the children, sang some songs and gave them all teddys (which had been made lovingly by friends in the UK) and a new pair of shoes! We also visited some of our sponsorship families, delivering food parcels and other blessings. We visited the football team for underprivileged children who live in one of the informal settlement, and saw them wearing their blue and white football kits that we bought them last year. Much of our time was focused on encouraging, empowering and supporting the Pastors and leaders that we are connected with in and around Cape Town. We visited a Night Shelter at which Pastor Joseph runs a weekly Soup Kitchen, and helped serve soup and we shared a short message. A couple of our team also went with Pastor Joseph to Tygerberg Hospital to visit and pray with patients.
