Yapton has a Student Youth Worker!
We are delighted to let you know that Dan Jenkins, a student Youth Worker, will be with us from 21st September until June 2010.
Dan is currently studying at Bristol Centre for Youth Ministry and is in his final year. He has worked previously with the Salvation Army and has loads of experience with Youth work in his home church, St John's, Southbourne.
Dan will be helping Hugo and Gerald and the Youth team. He is also a musician and skilled in sound technology, so it will be great to have him around! Dan is self-funded but YFC will be giving him a small bursary to cover his expenses.
Please feel free to bless Dan with offers of cups of coffee, food parcels and invites for curries!
Let's give Dan a really warm YFC welcome when you meet him. We are blessed!
Dan can reached via email. Click here to contact him.

Here is Dan - in his own words!
"I am 23 years old and originally come from Southbourne, just the other side of Chichester. I left home when I was 18 and did a gap year with NGM. During this gap year I was working in Falmouth and the surrounding area (in Cornwall) doing youthwork, sound engineering and church planting. This involved all sorts, from music to juggling; van driving to running home groups.
"The last two years I have been studying for a degree in youth & community work with applied theology. I just gained my JNC and have one more year to go for my BA.
"I will be working at YFC until June 2010 both as a placement for my final year to help me learn as much as possible from all of you, and also hopefully I'll be able to help you guys too!
"I can juggle and unicycle and have also been known to do a little fire breathing on the odd occasion, having run a Circus Skills Club at school and several workshops since.
"I love driving and have a small interest in cars, but not so much motorbikes. I love music and play guitar (not as good as Hugo!) and also drum a little (but not as good as Ben!). I also love sport, playing rather than watching, but you wouldn't know from my current personal fitness!
"I have a girlfriend called Tilly (see above) who lives in Greenwich and is at university there, I'm sure she will be able to come and visit ocassionally so you may also get to meet her during the year!
"I also like good food, and cooking/baking, I love the TV series 24, I went to Uganda this summer for my sisters wedding and I'm pretty good with computers too.
"My favourite book (apart from the Bible!) is probably "Dave Barry in Cyberspace" (a commedy book about a guy trying to keep up with technology and all the latest jargon...and then failing miserably). The most inspirational book I have read is probably "Jesus for President" by Shane Claiborne.
"So there you have it, that's the low down on me. I've been doing youth work in one capacity or another for about 5 years and I do it because I love working with young people, I believe this is the ministry God has called me to!
If you see me around feel free to come and chat to me!
God bless
Dan"

There are quite a few gaps here so if you have a gifting with sound equipment, please see Gerald; we need you! Refreshments. There are also a number of ‘volunteer’ spaces on the refreshments rota so even the most basic of kitchen skills will be much appreciated! Marigolds will be supplied if required!! Set-up.
