What we do in our church

Sunday Meetings

We meet every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Yapton & Ford Village Hall At 10:00 a.m., before the meeting, there is an opportunity to meet for a period of prayer.

On the first Sunday of each month our Young People meet (5-11 years) in the Village Hall from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. for Funday Sunday, a time of fun and games, music and drama with a Christian message.

At the same time the other members of our church usually meet for a meeting called  First Sunday - a meeting for worship and teaching at the Old Church Building.

Home Groups
There are various Home Groups that meet throughout the week.   Their purpose is to encourage Christian growth and development, pastoral care, bible teaching and building friendships.  This is a very important part of church life.

Whilst Yapton Free Church does not have a formal 'membership' - being part of a Home Group is the nearest thing to it.  People who are interested in becoming more involved with our Church are asked to attend our Alpha course as a first step towards joining a Home Group.

If you would like to know more about the groups or want to join a group, please contact Alan Hunt or Esther Hunt.

Prayer and Intercession
The Old Church Building is open for prayer every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.  - contact Hugo for details.  Every second and last Friday of each month we meet and intercede with other local churches.

On the first Tuesday of each month we meet from 7:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for a "Call to Prayer" meeting.

On the second Tuesday of each month we meet from 7:30 p.m. for a Soaking Service.

On the third Tuesday of each month we meet from 7:30 p.m. for a meeting of Prayer and Praise.

All of the above meetings usually take place in the Old Church Building.

In addition we also meet to pray for the needs of our church, for Yapton Primary School and other schools in the neighbouring villages, for the youth groups and the youth of the village, and for our families. Please see the newsletter for details of venues and times.

It is important we take every opportunity to receive prayer for personal needs, at the Sunday meetings, within the Home Groups and at any of the regular prayer meetings.  If we continue to support one another in this way we will remain strong;  "those who pray together, stay together"

The Mens Breakfast

The men's breakfasts were originally started with the vision of providing a forum for the men to have a forum where they can share, enjoy fellowship and grow together becoming the men of God that they are meant to be. The focus for this is a monthly breakfast where in addition to a good feed a speaker or topic follows the breakfast to stimulate discussion and provoke thought. Over the past year we have had a variety of inputs from Steve Legg, escapologist through to Richard Hayes, vicar of Yapton and been to such diverse places as Aldingbourne Trust, Goodwood Aero Club and the Dinky Doo, Littlehampton.

One of the groups great successes has been the second year’s cycle challenge along the South Downs Way to raise money for the Nepal orphanage, this has involved a dedicated bunch of guys attending the gym each Friday from March to September and undertaking progressively more taxing rides each Saturday morning.

The group has always been open to any men wishing to attend and has seen a variety of attendees over the past year.  We have also had times of prayer and even a ‘fasting’ breakfast. This has all contributed to building stronger relationships and a sense of purpose for the men of the church and those who come along.

The future plans are for visits to the Christian Sailing Centre, further fund raising activities and good breakfasts.

The men meet monthly on a Saturday morning for prayer and a hearty breakfast! For more details click here

For the Ladies - "After Eight"

A bi-monthly, Saturday evening meeting for the ladies. Includes a social get-together and a relevant speaker.  This is a group set-up for the ladies to encourage friendship and fellowship and to share our faith with others.

We have enjoyed some great speakers from other Churches, such as Hilda Sherwood from Home Start who shared God's Heart for Families, Cilla Wood on her moving story of being adopted as a child and then adopted into God's family, Liza Cook on Waiting for God's timing and her call to return to Africa and most recently Cally Meer on Faith and Flowers. Our “own grown” Pam and Sharman have also blessed us by speaking and we look forward to welcoming Jo Uhrig as she shares with us in January 2010.

There is plenty of time for chat, cake and coffee and a chance to invite your friends to a non-cringey night-out, with a relevant and interesting speaker.

Contact: Esther Hunt.

Kid's Club (for 5 to 11 year olds) also meets during the Sunday meeting.
